Joe served four years active duty and 2 years inactive. He was part of the 82nd Airborne Division, as an Army paratrooper, with a total of 75 jumps, and as a Tank Commander on Sheridan tanks. Joe said, “Just serving in general was a high point.”
After his time in the military, Joe had a long career in sales in the auto industry. But in October 2008, Joe was laid off, so he got into real estate and two years later he bought his Real Property Management franchise in Spokane, Washington. When asked how his military experience has helped him as a business owner, Joe said, “From a military side of things, you learn to persevere. You learn to explore other options and look at different ways to do things. It’s really all about perseverance.”
Stewart and his wife, Kathryn, had previous experience in entrepreneurship before their interest in the real estate market led Stewart to entering the property management industry. As a Marine veteran, Stewart also brings his experience serving in the military into his skill set as a business owner. “Being in the military has given me the necessary skills to do what needs to be done and deal with a broad spectrum of people. Being a business owner in general requires a lot of self-starting and can be a challenge because different people have different strengths.” Stewart says his Real Property Management franchise has provided an opportunity for growth. “When I stand back and look at my decision, I’m very glad. I’ve received nothing but support and I’m part of the company.”
As a Marine Corps veteran, Riley understands the military lifestyle which often means moving every three to four years, sometimes to areas with no ties to friends or family. Real Property Management offices help military personnel by providing property management services to those who wish to keep their property after a move or during deployment. “I appreciate what they go through, because I have been through it myself. The bottom line was: I saw that fellow marines had a problem, and there was a niche that needed to be filled. We do a good job filling it. It was an easy transition for me because I am able to utilize the skills gained in the military, such as working in an uncertain environment and being my own boss. And I help meet a need in my community by providing a service to the military.”
